University Press XIV

Hello there peoples.

I think this week is much better than last... a lot less depressing.

I'm releasing the fourteenth edition of UP a day early because I won't be around a computer for the next few days. So to save time and trouble, here it is... with a Saturday perspective on a Friday afternoon.

Opinion on Accident

Some coarse language ahead...

About a year ago, it was big news here in D/FW when it was reported that a young woman was injured by an airplane propeller. It was big at ten o'clock, and when it was reported that she had survived and was in hospital, it got bigger.

Cold Open

A departure from its normal comedic opens,
Saturday Night Live began its broadcast with
a children's choir singing "Silent Night."

University Press XIII

Hello and welcome to the thirteenth post of University Press.

When I awoke this morning, I had no idea that reviewing this week would be so damn depressing. First that shooting in that Portland mall on Wednesday and then the school shooting on Friday. It's quite saddening. But that is the world we live in. Sometimes it is great, other times, shitty as fuck.

And as The Onion wrote earlier today, "“I’m sorry, but I can’t fucking do this. Can you? Can anyone?”"

Tornado

While standing in my kitchen staring out a window, I heard sirens blasting. Not sure why, but I got on tumblr and just wrote this stanza.

The White Stuff

As the blonde meteorologist on ABC's Good Morning America said this morning, "For the first time this season, Dallas has more snow on the ground than Chicago."

Say what?!

Driving Mr. Rodriguez

I don't even know how this dream happened.
I haven't thought about Mr. Rodriguez since I messaged him the day before Thanksgiving.
My mind is a vault of delicate memories and insight.
$15.99 a minute.

University Press XII

It's 12:34 AM, people.

"Seinfeld" is on behind me, there might be a new job opportunity ahead of me, and I just got over another shaking episode like the one I had back in March.

It's December 8th, so there 17 days until Christmas. Need to get more of my shopping done.
Gonna get The Archenemy a pair of Sony headphones... I think he has an iPod... I dunno.

Friday Afternoon

Yesterday was an eventful day for most part. I took my mom out to lunch again along with a nephew of mine. We went to a Long John Silver's, which in my opinion has the best fish... and those hush puppies. Yum. And that coleslaw? It's to die for. Excuse me while I regain my composure.

A lá Kiki

I read way too much into people's things. Like Facebook posts or tweets.
It's not weird, or else they wouldn't post. Right

Dirty Lyrics

Is it worth a 14 rating? Some "coarse" language ahead...

I worked yesterday from 1 to 7:25 yesterday. It was helter-skelter yesterday, guys.

Bathroom Apologies

It's one of those dreams that go all crazy... and it seem so real.

I was standing in the middle of a large bathroom, with azure (or sky blue) walls and white tiled floors.
In the middle of this large bathroom was a standalone bathtub, with a curtain half-wrapped around it.
I'm certain that the room had recessed lighting, with lights near the walls and one strong lamp above the bathtub.

Thanksgiving

I realize it's 1:02 AM the day after Thanksgiving,
but you're never too late to be thankful.

Wednesday Night

Yesterday was the second day at my new job. Busy day. Didn't get out 'til 11:10 PM. Most tired I've ever been at a part-time job. Vacuuming a whole store is stressful without people throwing shit all over the place. I mean, c'mon! Be dirty at your own fucking homes, not at my workplace!

University Press IX

The Ninth Edition. I feel like Walt Whitman with his Leaves of Grass book
Always editing, always improving
Imagine where I was nine weeks ago, 63 days ago. Go figure.
Situations change, thankfully, so we go on. And sorry for the day delay.
Hookah waits for no one.

Night

Note: this is a long post, so get ready for some reading.

For a few months now, I learned that Josh, a real good friend of mine, was going off to basic training. Well now it's go time. Earlier this week, he posted that he was leaving Sunday (the 18th), so I began to get a little nostalgic.

Water-cooler Orgy

It's a hard twelve folks. Not enough for a fourteen year-old, just enough for a thirteen year-old.

A year ago, I bought a 15 foot by 15 foot (4.5 m by 4.5 m) green screen to use in my little video productions. Today, it is used a curtain in my kitchen. Best $15 ever fucking spent, I tell ya what. And I thought it was going to be like a suede, heavy thing. Not at all. Basically a big piece of green fabric.

Lonely Lunches & Blue-Eyed Devils

 Coarse language ahead...

"Can I sleep for like five minutes?"
"No. We either go now or not at all."
"Fine, let me get ready. Where are my shoes?"

University Press VIII

Today's Saturday and that means another UP.

This is probably the first issue I've ever gotten out before 6 PM.
It's a miracle, although I had it finished sooner but had to re-write my No Ad Here spaces.
Enjoy... because we're back in office and we ain't takin' no shit from anyone.

*cough* Sorry for the language.

My Canon Collection

As I wrote before in M.I.T.R.S. (Snappy LX) and M.I.T.R.S. (SureShot Owl), I own two Canon cameras, both coincidentally bought for less than a $1 at garage sales.

And now I'm going to show you off my collection.

Private Digichromagraphs II & Gold Seas

This afternoon, after having finished cleaned the house, I found myself with some time on my hands. I could either do what I do or take some photos. I noticed how windy it was outside, so I decided to stick with the latter. Didn't want to miss my chance with the falling leaves again.

University Press VII-B

We know who won.
We know where America is going.
This is what I wrote on my Facebook page last night.

Tuesday, November 6, 2012

I Voted...

"Are you a first time vote?"
"Yeah. I'm all excited for it!"

Time: late June. Fresh adult in the world, getting my I.D. card because no one would sell me any cigarettes. Just kidding... that's expensive. Seriously, I need an I.D. card, and I waited two hours for it. Two long, godforsaken hours. I got it about a week later. I was so happy!

M.I.T.R.S. (SureShot Owl)

In the last M.I.T.R.S post, I wrote that I had found the bestest camera I've ever owned. Well, I have some bad news. Well, bad news to a camera person/photographer.

Saturday, November 3, 2012

University Press VII

First time I've ever been late in anything. I miss deadlines if I can't get a handle on the resources I need. In this case, it was my computer. It happens on the weekends, but maybe I should do it as the week passes so on Friday nights all I have to do is spell-check myself and voilá! But not this week.

I'm doing another UP post on Tuesday because of the elections because let's face it people, we're voting for the future leader of the United States of America. And God forbid I let that robot Mitt Romney take us back to the Bush-era... we've come too far to let that shit happen!

Friday Night Movie Lights

Rated 16+ for images of graphic sexual content, use of coarse language, and other things that some might find objectionable

It's no secret that I have a Netflix account. That's how I watched my first Jackass movie at home. No DVDs for me! Except for Blu-Rays, because we bought a whole player dedicated to it. Anywho, every two weeks or so, I add a bunch of stuff onto my instant queue and then watch the longest of movies or programmes Friday/Saturday evenings. I'll provide the popcorn, just bring the drinks.

University Press VI

This is the sixth publication of The Texan Weekly, under the "University Press" moniker. I really like writing this thing, because it lets me flex my writing muscle. I'm attending school in January and so this keeps me in busy. In the meanwhile, let me fill you up with objective information. For the last four editions, the main headline have been about the Debates, so let's hope next week's headline is a good one. Maybe Romney makes another 'Binders full of Women' remark or something.

Conversion

Before I begin this post, I'm writing this as viewed from my eyes, a Catholic who's pretty cool with everybody else, no matter what you believe in. It's always good to keep an open mind, because you never know...

Found "Time"

Yesterday, around 11 PM, I was just surfing the internet. I won't say that it was like what you would watch in the daytime, but it was something appropriate for my age group. Anyway, while watching the video, during a strategic scene, this song played. Imagine, it's like 1979 and you've just committed copyright infringement. Scary, isn't?

University Press V

This post of the University Press V is actually a milestone. Now that I have a job, I have to juggle two blogs, a tumblr, a Twitter, and etc. It's hard... I mean, I could always do it when I get home, but I'm sort of lazy, although a work, I'm energetic, especially when it's like 2:15. Enough about me and me and me, let's get the fifth installment of this paper out.

I think, though, that when debates are on, that I should take notes so I don't have to read transcripts and shiz... because that just adds on to the work. Here we go, University Press Five!

Romney in the North; Obama in the South

This post is political in nature. Obama 2016!
Some rough language is in there, too.

Oh man, oh man. Today was my first day of work. Jesus Christ almighty. The silence is deadly, as I learned, but can be easily treated with a radio. Thank God. My feet are sore and my back hurts, but hey, I'll do anything for $10/hr.

Due to my avid Wikipedia surfing, one day I stumbled upon a page entitled White flight. Overall, it stated that white people leave diverse neighborhoods to those that are more homogenous (or the same). What a bitch, right? Well, where I live, I haven't really seen it. My neighborhood is mixed enough, with Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, and maybe an Asian or two. But that's where I live. A nice middle-class neighborhood that is what candidates like Mitt Romney and President Obama want to win over.

Something I Said?

In my room, there is a Blu-ray player my brother received as a Christmas present last year. We got a good deal on it, $65, before the State of Texas made Amazon pay taxes, which we do now. Ugh... no more tax-free goods... fucking State Comptroller. Bet she's Republican, too.

M.I.T.R.S. (aka Snappy LX)

I am a digital native. Someone who has spent most of their lives around computers and the internet. When I was born, they had dial-up. Eighteen years later, we now fiber optics, satellite, and cable connections. Few have dial-up. When I was born, everyone used film cameras. Now, a majority use digital, few consumers use film. In 1994, VCRs dominated; in 2012, it's digital files and Blu-Ray discs. It's weird to chart the course of technological advancement.

University Press IV

After last week's freezing weather, it's starting to get seasonably warm this weekend. Ugh. The eighties in October? Oh my god. Turn the A/C on, break out the sweat bands and fans. It was foggy earlier this week, and I loved it. It was nice, and not being able to see oncoming traffic was scary shiz. And now after an adventorus weekend, it's time to get back to work and publish another obscure e-paper.

Is e-paper even a word? I don't know. Makes it sound electrical, futuristic... like crazy.
Here we go, the fourth edition of University Press. Lovely, huh sweetie?

Saturday, October 6, 2012

University Press III

As the saying goes, "Third times the charm!"
God I hope it is. This edition marks the fastest turn around ever, about 45 minutes. A good way to spend a cold Saturday afternoon rather than putting away laundry and all that.

I got chores to do. It's 7 AM (Sunday) and my feet are cold.
I know what can cure that, socks! Socks that haven't been put away yet. >.>

My Own Private Digichromatographs

As I wrote back in September, I have fallen in love with a color process by one Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii. It's something that anyone can do, provided you have the software, if they wanted to.

Cobblestone Dreams

Sundays are always interesting. A day to lay about, a day to play video games, a day to use bad words and poke fun at the neighbor who sells drugs. Fun, fun, fun. Sundays are also days to finish chores, finish errands, to roll coins and find out your thirty dollars richer. A full Sunday indeed for me.

University Press II

This post is unrated.
Here we go again this week. Your favorite paper in the favorite Berliner/Midi format.
Another edition of Texas Weekly, a paper whose circulation is smaller than that of Latinos at Yale.
Seriously. How many Latinos are at Yale? I don't know, but I figure it's not that many.

No hablo pissy English, cabrón.

Digichromatography!

Note: this is a very long post, but it goes in-depth to
an awesome photography process.

One hundred years ago, a Russian chemist turned photographer by the name of Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii traveled across the Russian Empire to survey and photograph its citizenry and land. After winning the support of Czar Nicholas II, he traveled around by train, especially equipped with a darkroom and was granted access to restricted regions.

The Asian Mr. Rodriguez

This entry is probably the most weird I've been towards Mr. Rodriguez, unless you count that one about the kiss and stuff. Try and find it. Hint: It's in the title!

University Press I

You know, as the switch over between high school and college happened, I had a dilemma. Should I continue with the H.S. format or morph into a university newspaper? Well, I thought of the pros and cons-- and then I remembered I shouldn't take it so seriously because let's face it, no one even looks at it.

Mr. Parasite

I don't know much about Great Britain, mainly because I don't get BBC America. He-he-he.

9/11

As someone pointed on Twitter, kids who were seven when 9/11 occurred are now eighteen and can join the army.

Nineteen Ninety-Nine

MCMXCIX. 1999 marked the beginning of schooling many others and myself. Ten years of faking injuries; five years of Field Days; years of actual sickness and fevers; five years of the photography bug.

Kidnapped by The Archenemy

It's only been a week or so since the Two Year Anniversary of the ESF happened already I'm having dreams about it. Since I take care of my nephew during the day and go to sleep around 1 AM or so, I don't get much rest before I wake up again and run on a few hours of sleep.

病みつき! (Addicting!)

Ah, lazy Sunday afternoons. The reason why the title is in Japanese is because of the very cute, but addicting commercials I saw this afternoon. These commercials are advertising a brand of gum in Japan called Fit's which is made by Lotte, a South Korean company.

La Vie

As the French saying goes, C'est la vie. 'That's life' for us English speakers. Of course, I don't speak French and I only knew one person who could sort of speak it, although he only knew phrases but couldn't construct sentences. For example:

The Archenemy and the Lonely Parents Club

Some say that dreams tell of things we want; fantasies that will never be realized. My dreams, as I have written, are wild. Some are erotic, others horrific, and some just straightforward, as this next dream is.

From Me To You: Two Years On

A robbery started all everything. So did a stupid remark. I can't say that I ever thought this whole thing would reach two years. Hell, I barely thought it would reach one. Running this has really let me express myself in ways that I couldn't anywhere else. I can't help to say how glad I am to have the opportunity to do such a thing.

Filipino Taco Stand Owner

Rated E with L for some coarse language

I'm not much for video games, at least the ones where you have to shoot at others. My reflexes aren't good enough for that. I really can't handle that stupid camera thingy, where if you push up, the camera goes down. Who the fuck programs something like that?

High School News IX

A revised edition due to the shooting in Colorado.
My condolences and prayers go to the families of the victims of this terrible tragedy.

Nice Versa, Mr. Rodriguez

I have a new job. Babysitter. Depending on who you are, you either like it, hate it, or are neutral about it. Depending if I slept the night before, I can be either of the three.

H.E. Joseph Beauford

This summer is not like last. For example, I didn't babysit last summer. I've always thought that babysitting was easy, but I've come to learn it's vastly underrated/under-respected. It takes a lot of patience to watch over a bundle of energy and even more so to relax while he/she is asleep. Also, it's a big responsibility to look after a human life-- a live, conscious being that makes up its own mind. Like me. I think, I make decisions, I carry a voter's registration card.

My Nigga Jesus

This post is Rated 12+ with L and O for use of slang and religious view for coarse language

This summer has been more eventful than last. A lot more. Not "Hey-Mr.-Rodriguez-came-to-visit" way, more in a "Hey-Look-Froyo!" way. Speaking of froyo...

North Sea Texas (Noordzee, Texas)

You know, I had planned to write a very long review of the movie, because I had really liked it. But I'm just not a movie reviewer. I'll keep it brief.
