Proposition 8 was declared unconstitutional stated an article on CNN. The measure passed just months after Californians themselves had voted for recognizing gay marriage in the state of California.
Prop. 8 was backed by the Alliance Defense Fund, a conservative Christian legal group and the Church of Latter-Day Saints (aka the Mormons) with massive donations, which led 52% of the California's population to vote for it.
If it's on their television screens, they will see it... and they will be convinced.
It's those (Christian) people who are somehow the biggest hypocrites. They quote the Bible left and right, saying how we should love and care for one another while at the same time, saying how wrong it is for Americans to give the right of marriage to everyone. Peace and brotherhood my ass.
They state that passing such measures would throw the country into chaos, and that it would break families apart. My response to that is, "How in the hell would it break families apart?" The only way that could happen is if everyone's mom or dad was secretly gay and then ran to their special other (just like Ted Haggard or that Congressman). It's all these conservative types that keep the country under a nineteenth, twentieth century-influence, not allowing us to move forward with other countries, such as Great Britain, France, or Canada.
But in this, it's also important that we shouldn't force this issue on people. Then we become who we dislike: conservatives, Republicans, or others in that mix who their religious beliefs on others just because they think God has the time to say, "Let's hope he can spread my message, while being a pompous ass and a hypocrite to boot." We should convince them with facts and common sense... not fear, hatred, and bigotry.
I guess what I'm trying to say that while we believe that equality in the U.S. is widespread, it's a half-truth. People are less tolerant due to what their exposed to, and when all you're exposed to is church teaching and being told that you're going to Hell just because... you become indoctrinated. Such as the North Koreans.
